Liza and Barbra

I hadn't been planning to go anywhere yesterday because I've got a bunch of work to do in the final lap of my masters, but a friend called at the last minute about a show on in Stock Alley theatre: Liza and Barbra.

Well, I laughed until I cried. It was a sort of cabaret show, I guess, with two men performing musical parodies of Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand. Now, the originals are not exactly my favourite music, but my grandmother was always a big fan, and these guys were true enough to the originals to make them really funny -- but they weren't mean, the impersonations actually seemed quite affectionate and both of the guys could really sing, which was great. Of course, one thing led to another and my friend and I ended up at the Czech Inn, which wasn't originally part of the programme, and hasn't really helped with the the work today, not so much because of the drink (honestly) but because I really, really needed an early night.

But am I going bed early tonight? Well, maybe. Or not. My good friends at Dublin Tourism have arranged tickets for me to go to a show tonight! It's part of the Dublin Dance festival and it's on early, so going out is not necessarily incompatible with editing my dissertation, right? So long as I don't get sidetracked and end up in a bar somewhere. The show I'll be seeing is called "Sunstruck" and I'll let you know tomorrow how I got on. Their copy promises "a poetic eligy for light, music and sound." High falutin', huh?

In other exciting news, my cooking classes with my flatmate are coming along just great. I have mastered three whole separate pasta sauces and we're upping the ante, because I'm to go in to meet the owner in a couple of weeks, and I have to be able to pass myself off as a competent cook. If anyone has any pointers for me, I'm all ears ;-)
